Controlling Ants

When you have spotted one lone ant which is known as a forager ant, it is fairly common for additional ants to be located nearby as they are social creatures and move with the colony. Often, an ant infestation will be noticed or reported by seeing them crawling around any cracks in your patio or on work surfaces too. As well as the lasius niger ants, known more commonly as the black garden ant, the myrmica rubra (red ant) can cause extra problems as they sting and can cause irritation. Fortunately, they are not too prevalent in Scotland. There are other species of ants, like bees, ant colonies come with a queen, who stays in the nest and can lay huge numbers of eggs during her life span, which can be as long as 30 years. You may also notice flying ants in late July or August as they spread to make new nests, these again are the female of the species looking to move on and establish a new colony. The key to eliminating ants is to find the source of the nests. This can prove to be extremely difficult due to their burrowing habits. Killing ants outside the nests doesn’t completely remove an infestation, as the location of nests are normally underground. Nests may be indicated by small piles of earth piles or can be observed through a constant procession of the ants making their way underground to feed and sustain the eggs and queen. Flea Pest Control
Fleas are normally associated with pet dogs and cats as they are external parasites that typically feed off the blood of birds and mammals (though they can also feed off the blood of humans). Fleas are extremely small insects, reddish-brown insects, which can jump from the ground onto host species. They usually arrive into properties via dogs or cats, their minute size allows them to settle in on or near hosts via soft fabrics. This means you may not be aware of a problem until it’s too late. At the point of an infestation, you will notice multiple fleas hopping onto furniture and curtains. Other obvious signs include pets scratching more than usual, and finding bites, which are characterized by red spots surrounded by red halos.
