Despite their appearance, Slugs do not cause a public health issue but do leave rather unpleasant trails. They are harmless and are classed as minor agricultural/amenity pest.

Control, ultimately, is best achieved by curing the damp problem. Having a well kept and maintained garden helps reduce the risk of slug activity, removing any old garden waste close to the affected area may also help. Slug pellets may be applied, with care, in accordance with the product label.
